Carlos Miranda, the big-voiced Tejano singer sometimes known as “la Voz de Mexico en Texas” has died after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 73 and died in San Antonio. In his early career, Miranda performed with Joey López y Los Guadalupanos and Los Pavos Reales.
Miranda is survived by his five children: Elsa Imelda Martinez, Juan Carlos Miranda, Cindy Miranda Fuentes, Irene Miranda and Carlos C. Miranda.
At the end of his life, Miranda lived and was treated at Trisun Care Center Lakeside, a nursing facility. One of Martinez’s cherished memories is of her father, earlier this year, performing for elderly patients at the center.
