A 38-year-old woman was found dead – with a bloody iron next to her head – inside a Lower Manhattan hotel late Thursday morning, cops and police sources said.
A hotel maid discovered the woman lying on the floor, under a blanket, with a head wound inside the SoHo 54 Hotel on Watts Street near Sixth Avenue in SoHo around 10:30 a.m., according to authorities and sources.
The iron was discovered next to her body. Investigators were trying to determine whether the iron was used as a weapon, sources said.
Responding officers found her unconscious and unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
The victim had been staying at the hotel for several days.
The city medical examiner’s office will officially determine how she died.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, the NYPD said.
The woman’s name has not yet been officially released, pending family notification.
Rooms in the hotel, formerly known as the Hampton Inn, range in price from about $85 to $300 per night, according to its website.
